Trippin'

1973 27 foot Ericson Sailboat

This is Trippin' Shortly after I bought her over 20 years ago. This picture is of Trippin' and  me at Svendson's in Alameda getting her bottom painted for the first time after I bought her.

She had a marine toilet, a 20 HP diesel engine and 30 year old electrical system; all of which had issues.  I spent the first couple of years fixing all of the basic systems and learning how to operate a small cruising sailboat.

Protect the Woodwork!

I started sewing my own covers in 2004. I started with relatively simple projects like  tiller and sail  covers. After having to varnish my woodwork a couple of times I made covers for every piece of woodwork exposed to the sun. I have not had to varnish for many years.

Protect the Crew!

Sailing can get pretty intense. After getting splashed by waves and burnt by the sun a few times, I added a small dodger and Bimini. They are proportional to the boat and the extra protection from the elements really make a difference.

Cruising the Bay and Delta.

There are numerous marinas to explore around the bay and up and down the delta. Trippin' has been up the Napa River, all over the Carquinez straight, up the Delta as far as Antioch and all over San Francisco, Oakland, and Alameda over the last twenty years.

Sails

Trippin' is over 50 years old. Over the last couple of years I have built a custom main, jib and asymmetrical spinnaker. At this point every cover, cushion, and sail, everything made from fabric was sewn on my Sailrite sewing machines.+

The Future of Trippin'

Anyone that owns a sailboat knows that  maintenance is never ending and upgrades are always happening.

Let me know if you want to go sailing.
